My Wee Little Friend by Danielle Olson

I love the contrast between the Elf Princess so large and the tiny dragon … the color harmony is spectacular and I love the details … notice the princess is not the young, flawless skin type … she looks real … she just looks real world instead of like a caricature of what glossy magazines say all female forms should appear to be … her skin is not perfect, her age is not teen-ager … she has character … wisdom … strength … I really like this princess … she is someone I would want for a friend! The dragon has a marvelously friendly and pert look.

I found this lovely dragon in the gallery of Carmen Ditiu. I like the contrast of it’s top half facing one direction with the bottom half facing the opposite direction. The painting has great balance and though it is a rather subdued color palette, the color harmony is excellent and would be a great addition for any collector of Chinese / Oriental dragons. Very well done!

The surrounding art is very decorative and showcases the sharp dragon talons and the nature of dragons quite well. For me, the golds are a reminder of the greedy grasping nature of dragons on one hand while folk tales also tell us that Gold Dragons are immensely wise and friendly to people.
