Dragonflies Do Swarm
Have you ever had a dragonfly in your home? I did one night - it was about 9 PM or so - dark outside and when we opened the door to let the dog out into the backyard to take care of her business … in flew a dragonfly. I didn’t even know dragonflies flew at night! It took us about half an hour to herd it back outside - my daughter and I both were worried it would get caught in the ceiling fan … so of course we turned it off … it stayed in the living room thankfully but that room has a cathedral ceiling.
Did you know that dragonflies swarm? I did not until I saw a swarm of them one hot summer afternoon that swirled past me close enough I could see the shape of the swarm clearly - they sparkled and buzzed - sounded like a swarm of bees but it was not - they were dragonflies.
Over the years I have been in Texas, dragonflies have appeared in my life from flying into my home to landing on my windshield while sitting at a traffic light on my way to work in the morning to swarming within 2 feet of where I am standing just to name a few sightings. I started creating them … then I discovered Tribal designs and could not find any tribal dragonflies … so I created my own tribal dragonflies.
Dragonflies are gorgeous as art dragonflies … but a real dragonfly is not so pretty - their eyes can give ya the heebie jeebies
… but having a dragonfly Muse (or possibly a swarm of dragonfly Muses) has meant that I have done a bit of research on dragonflies … they are very interesting creatures … but I still like them as art better than as real
In all the photographs I’ve taken trying to capture the real dragonflies I’ve seen, only one ever turned out - the rest were blurred - they were moving even though they appeared quite still to me … and it was not me shaking the camera - everything except the dragonfly was crystal clear and crisp … not a blur to be seen except the dragonfly so it had to be moving!
