Dragonfly Wind
Wind is a marvelous thing when it is a gentle breeze or just enough to fly kites. It is another story entirely when it is a hurricane or tornado! I’ve seen dragonflies flying down here in Texas in all sorts of wind too - I was surprised - I guess they do not get blown off course or if they do - I just do not know it. They can fly quite fast so perhaps wind is their friend unless it is way too much wind. I do not remember ever really noticing dragonlfies in Iowa … and they certainly probably would not be out during the winter months.

In Iowa, kite flying weather was generally in February if we were lucky, March and perhaps April if we were really fortunate except for maybe a day here & there the rest of the year … and on those days it was usually a stormy rainy day that you wouldn’t want to be out flying kites anyway. And February and March can be very chilly or downright cold days for flying kites - I used my winter mittens many a day in March when flying kites.
In Galveston Texas at the beach - you can generally fly kites year round though some days here & there in the winter - perhaps December through March - may not be the warmest of days - keep your gloves handy for those days but then there are gorgeous days when it is lovely and quite warm even during the winter when flying kites at the beach is pure unadulterated joy. I’ve seen wind surfers at Galveston Beach, I’ve seen seen wind kites that people fly and I have seen ordinary kites there that any drugstore will sell - the simple kind like the older generation (like me) had as kids except ours had wooden crossbeams and now most have plastic that bends and the kits is plastic instead of rippable paper.
